People urged to nominate for Parky’s new award

Date:

South West Yorkshire Mental Health NHS Trust, which provides mental health and learning disability services to people in Calderdale, Kirklees and Wakefield is urging people to make nominations for the Department of Health’s dignity in care award.

The award, which was recently launched by Sir Michael Parkinson and Care Services Minister Phil Hope, recognises people who go above and beyond the call of duty to improve the dignity of older people being looked after in care settings. South West Yorkshire Mental Health Trust is encouraging anyone who is aware of a worthy candidate to consider nominating them for this unique award.

Joyce Catterick, Chair of South West Yorkshire Mental Health Trust said, "As an organisation we believe it is fundamental to good care to treat people with the utmost dignity and respect. We strive to treat each and every person who comes into contact with our services as an individual and to tailor care to meet their needs. This new award is an excellent way of recognising the importance of dignity and respect in care and celebrating those whose example we should all follow."

If you know an individual or team who is committed to making a difference to the way older people are treated in care, you can nominate them by going to www.healthandsocialcareawards.org.uk and registering your interest. You will then be sent details of how to make a nomination.

Nominations are open now and close 6 March 2009. For further details on the Dignity in Care campaign or to sign up to become a dignity champion, visit www.dignityincare.org.uk.
