NHS Trust supporting creative challenge – Rethink your Mind

Date:

South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is proud to be supporting a national creative campaign that aims to raise awareness about mental health and encourage people to look at it with a positive perception.

Rethink your Mind is a positive mental health project which is challenging people to submit poetry, artwork and photography ideas showcasing their answer to the statement – “With good mental health I have……”

The campaign is being supported by national charities, mental health organisations and NHS Trusts across the country, and the Trust is now providing its support to it by encouraging people in touch with its’ services across Barnsley, Calderdale, Kirklees and Wakefield to take up the challenge and submit an entry.

All entries submitted are posted on the Rethink your Mind website. The winning entries, which will be chosen by a panel of judges including artists, performers and poets, will be invited to attend a prize giving ceremony at the House of Lords with Professor Lord Patel of Bradford OBE in May 2013.

20 pieces of artwork and 20 pieces of poetry will also be selected to appear in a special book. The book, which will be shared with all organisations who have signed up to support the campaign, will also include material to aid recovery, details of support available from national organisations and charities and information about local NHS organisations.

Dawn Stephenson, director of corporate development at the Trust and lead director for Creative Minds said, “We are proud to support the Rethink your Mind challenge and to encourage those in touch with our services, their families and our staff to get involved by submitting their own ideas.

“This campaign highlights how involvement in creative activities can improve people’s mental wellbeing, which fits in really well with our organisations Creative Minds Strategy. Creative Minds is our commitment to encourage the use of creative approaches in healthcare and promote more opportunities for individuals and groups to develop and grow creatively.”
