Free seminars to help people in Kirklees fight stress and low mood

Date:

NHS experts in Kirklees are inviting locals to a series of seminars to see how the Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) service, run by South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, could help with alleviating low mood and stress.

Each 90 minute seminar, held in convenient and central locations in Kirklees, will focus on teaching attendees quick and effective ways to manage the feelings and emotions they may be experiencing. A number of sessions will look at lifting low mood, and others will concentrate on helping people cope with stress.

The seminars are run by NHS experts and are free to people aged over 18 registered with a Kirklees GP. They will run weekly throughout June and July with times available both during the day and evening.
More dates are to follow throughout the rest of the year.

IAPT’s team of trained professionals work alongside local GPs to offer various types of treatment including stress control courses, guided self-help, and counselling. Their range of techniques can help people to address their current problems, gain a new understanding of the difficulties they are facing, and make important changes to their lives.

The service is tailored to each individual, and support is available in a number of ways including online, over the phone and face to face through day and evening classes.

Sarah Mullaney, senior psychological wellbeing practitioner with Kirklees IAPT, said: “Conditions such as anxiety, stress and depression can affect some people to the point where it begins to take over their life and can make it hard to cope.

“If you feel like you have been struggling and would like to learn new ways to manage your condition, come along to one of our seminars. You have nothing to lose as they are free. The seminars can help you pick up tips to help you manage and take control of your lifestyle – giving you the confidence to be the navigator of your own care.”

People wishing to access the IAPT service in Kirklees can now self-refer using a form available online at swyt.co/kirkleesiapt. IAPT can also be accessed by visiting your local GP and asking for a referral to the service.
