NHS Trust appeals to Barnsley organisations to help deliver creative projects

Date:

South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is on the lookout for voluntary and community organisations in Barnsley to help deliver creative activities as part of the Trust’s Creative Minds initiative.

Creative Minds gives people who use Trust services an opportunity to take part in innovative activities to help improve their health and wellbeing. The initiative is at the heart of the Trust’s commitment to ensuring a creative approach to delivering health services.

To help deliver these activities, the Trust wants to hear from established voluntary/non-profit creative organisations and smaller community and self-help groups. Working in partnership with the Trust, organisations would provide creative projects for people who use Trust services and their carers.

Examples of previous Creative Minds projects in Barnsley include:

• Alive and Kicking – a dance project with Qdos Creates

• Natures Gym – a space where people experiencing mental health problems can assess a garden to receive positive social support, organised by Barnsley Premier Leisure

• Live Arts Café – a weekly social/creative evening for people who have experience of mental health issues, led by Action Space Mobile.

The Trust’s director of corporate development, Dawn Stephenson, is keen to hear from local organisations and said, “The use of creative activities in healthcare has been shown to increase self-esteem, provide a sense of purpose, develop social skills, help community integration and improve service users’ quality of life.

“We really want to encourage local groups in Barnsley to get involved with Creative Minds. This is a great opportunity to work with the NHS to provide excellent creative projects for the people who access our services.

“Alongside networking opportunities, support and information, the Trust may be able to offer financial support to help project delivery.”

Working in collaboration, the Trust aims to share good practice and build strong partnerships with community organisations.
