Trust celebrate opening of community hub

Date:

South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is marking the official opening of the newly developed Laura Mitchell Health and Wellbeing Centre in Halifax on Friday 18 March.

The Trust has invested £6.2m into the new development which has seen the former centre demolished and transformed into a dedicated hub that will support people’s health and wellbeing in Halifax and Calderdale. The centre will deliver mental health and community services, providing a single point of access for both children and adults.

The development began two years ago, when the Trust saw an opportunity to have a Calderdale community hub and bring service teams together in one location. The Trust will work in partnership with Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust and Calderdale CCG to ensure people in Halifax have access to a full range of health services.

There are a number of services located within the centre, including adult mental health services and child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS) as well as Community Teams. The centre has new treatment and consulting rooms, meeting rooms for therapy, and a café in the reception area where people can socialise and meet informally.

Steven Michael, chief executive at the Trust said: “We are committed to providing the best care for people in the Calderdale area and this £6.2m development highlights our ongoing hard work for local residents. Our new hub includes an improved space which will give people access to services closer to their home.

The new community hub is a central part of our commitment to Halifax and Calderdale and showcases the exciting new ways we will be delivering services to people with mental health issues.”
