Fieldhead master plan update

Date:
Work taking place on site

Our £16m project to transform mental health services in Wakefield continues apace.  We are redeveloping two adult acute mental health wards and one older people’s ward at Fieldhead.  Patients will benefit from new purpose built facilities with a modern therapeutic environment.

Earlier this month staff, service users, carers and volunteers were invited to our progress update event. Attendees heard from  our contractor Interserve and were taken on a site visit.

Progress update event at Fieldhead

Work is currently taking place to rebuild the older people’s Chantry unit.  Interserve has almost completed below ground drainage.  The reinforced concrete substructure and slab is also well underway.  The team has now started constructing the envelope of the new building. Meanwhile service users from the Chantry unit have temporarily moved into the Priory 2 ward which has been recently refurbished by Interserve.

Elsewhere on site, a new access road to facilities and an alteration to the southern car park have also been completed.

Following a recent fire at Trinity 2, this ward is currently closed.  Due to the swift actions of staff the building was safely evacuated.  Services across the trust have come together to ensure that all service users have been accommodated elsewhere, with most within the Trusts own units.
