Kendray Hospital gets cabin fever

A unique log cabin has opened at Kendray Hospital to help towards improving the wellbeing of people who use our services.

It was opened by Trust chief executive Rob Webster on 20 January, and was funded by the Trust’s charities, Creative Minds and Charitable Funds.

The new building will be used as a place to meet informally in a relaxed setting, as well as a base for outdoor activities such as gardening and exercise.

Creative Minds promotes the use of creative activities such as art and sport to aid with recovery in mental health care. Since its launch in 2011, it has delivered over 250 creative projects in partnership with community organisations, benefitting more than 5,000 people.

Kendray Hospital is a base for a number of Trust services, including stroke rehabilitation and memory services.

Dave Watson, project development lead for Creative Minds in Barnsley, said: “The log cabin is a great addition to the Kendray site. It provides an environment that we hope will help stimulate people’s creativity and help them find self-confidence, social skills and develop talents through activities such as crafts, art and music.”
