International mental health football tournament taking place in Yorkshire

Date:

We’re hosting the European Association for Sport and Social Integration (EASI) World Cup at Barnsley Football Club 12-14 June 2018.

The Barnsley Chronicle came to speak to staff ahead of the event about the value of football in treating mental health issues

EASI is a group made up of health and community groups from 12 European countries who promote sport to improve the wellbeing of people with mental health issues and learning disabilities. Each year they hold a football tournament which brings together more than 25 teams.

The event will bring hundreds of players, coaching staff and spectators from all over Europe to the Yorkshire.

This year the event is being organised by us, supported by our partners Rotherham and Barnsley Mind, Barnsley FC, Reds in the community and Sheffield and Hallamshire County FA.

The tournament begins with an opening ceremony on the morning of 12 June featuring a brass band, speeches and the Mayor of Barnsley. There’s then play all day until 6pm as well as a range of fun activities to take part in. The football continues on Thursday 14 June with play all day and presentations in the early evening.

Entry to the EASI World Cup is just £1 on the gate.
