What is physiotherapy?

The aim of physiotherapy is to restore your normal function. This includes ensuring full range of movement and strength, reducing pain, assisting in the self-management of chronic conditions and preventing recurrence.

What do we treat?

  • acute and chronic back and neck pain
  • sciatica/lumbago
  • whiplash
  • joint pain and stiffness
  • tennis elbow
  • ligament and tendon injuries
  • post joint surgery
  • acute joint and muscle injuries
  • plantar fasciitis
  • osteoarthritis
  • rheumatoid arthritis
  • tendinitis
  • frozen shoulder
  • overuse injuries
  • fibromyalgia

What will happen?

At your first appointment, the physiotherapist will carry out a detailed assessment. This will include questions about your condition, its history and how it affects you. You will also be asked about any other medical problems and any medication you are taking.

Your physiotherapist will then complete a physical examination of the ‘problem area’ (this may require you to undress), so they can clearly see any swelling, loss of movement, muscle spasm etc. In some cases, the physiotherapist may need to feel the area in order to identify any stiffness, swelling or signs of inflammation. This may not always take place on your first appointment.

The physiotherapist will discuss their findings with you and will encourage you to be involved in decisions regarding your treatment options. You will always be given some advice and/or exercises for you to continue at home to help with your condition. To ensure you get the most out of your physiotherapy it is important that you complete the exercises given and follow any advice.

If necessary your physiotherapist may refer you on to continue your treatment at either our gym sessions or in the hydrotherapy pool.
