Experience Community is about building communities through providing different experiences for them to share. We organise activities for people with physical disabilities and from the wider community, which are then supported by people with mental health needs. This includes guided visits and walks to leisure venues (which are fully evaluated for all people whatever their ability).
We also provide information about the activities we organise through making short films about our walks and other leisure attractions. We work with people with mental health needs to help us produce these films as our camera operators and assistants in the field.
As part of this project, we’d like to develop 20 walks throughout Kirklees and Calderdale and produce 5 new films and we’re inviting people with disabilities and mental health issues to get involved. Taking part will not only be an opportunity to explore your local community and landscape but also meet new people, boost your fitness and explore your own ideas and creativity.
We also hope to build participants self-esteem and confidence as well as help them to find new ways to channel and explore their personal issues.
