Mental health awareness film – Cloverleaf

Through this project, we aim to develop an accessible film, that will raise awareness about mental health for adults with a learning disability, their carers and staff who support them.  There is very little information around that gives people an easy way of understanding and managing mental health conditions – which we hope to change through this project.

The film will be made by our members who have a learning disability themselves and will deliver information around mental health that is easy to understand. We will cover different mental health conditions, how to spot the early signs, where to go for support.

People with a learning disability are more likely to suffer from mental health problems, and can often find themselves in crisis very quickly, and their diagnosis is often overshadowed by their learning disability.  This film will empower people by giving them a better understanding of how to deal with their mental health, and therefore give them the chance to receive the right support early enough.  It will also teach our members new skills and give them chance to cascade the training to other people with a learning disability in Kirklees.
