This project aims to improve the physical and mental health of the patient population at the Trust’s Newton Lodge facility through a Nordic walking group.
The group is fully inclusive and open to the entire patient population within the Newton Lodge unit.
An exercise therapist will lead on the project and will help the group learn Nordic walking techniques with the overall aim being to improve their mental health and physical wellbeing. The group will reduce levels of obesity and the risk of cardiovascular disease as well as improving self-confidence in participants.
In turn, these skills will promote independence and social inclusion within the group.
