Open Door is a project being run by 611 Asylum support in Huddersfield. They are based at Oasis Youth and Community Centre and support asylum seekers and refugees in the area. They provide a safe environment to express themselves in a positive way.
Our aim is to empower and prepare the asylum seekers/refugees for independent living within local communities and to integrate, teach Asylum seekers and people from other cultures about life in Britain.
Our objectives are to ensure that clients have an understanding of how to achieve this and to provide support where necessary but give people the life skills and tools to enable them to do this for themselves
We offer people the chance to take part in a wide range of activities including cooking, indoor sports, reading and a range of craft activities. We also provide a hot nutritious meal every week.
We also aim to help people to find their gifts and talents and use them to the best of their abilities. We try to help people to feel loved accepted and valued
Whilst offering a safe environment, the project also offers a befriending service and refer to other services such as support for recovery and counselling if needed.
