Phoenix Radio

Phoenix Radio runs radio based workshops enabling participants to explore new forms of expression and learn new skills, develop better communication skills and build their confidence whilst becoming involved in a community radio station. The workshops can lead to the creation of broadcast ready material which can inform people about issues facing many vulnerable people in our community in their own words which in turn can help to reach other people who may have become isolated and unsure of where they can get support.

Participants have the opportunity to write and script pieces and learn about the technology used in a radio station, such as mixing desks and portable recording equipment. All these outcomes can lead to a non-accredited Phoenix Radio Introduction to Radio Skills Certificate.

The project is run by Phoenix Radio staff and volunteers, some of whom have first hand experience of mental health problems.

Read more about the Calderdale substance misuse service that has been able to take part in the sessions.
