The Packhorse Progress Initiative is a series of artist residencies, workshops and exhibitions, designed to build on the initial success of the Packhorse Gallery project by assisting service users in taking the next steps in their creative journeys.
Between February 2015 and February 2016, at our workshop unit: ‘Create Space’ we are offering 6 successful applicants the opportunity to be our resident artist for one month each. These artists are provided with their own working space in ‘Create Space’ and spend a minimum of 18 hours per week there making new work.
While creating, the resident artists also invite members of the public to learn about their artistic practice, as well as provide information about Support to Recovery and its projects. At the end of each residency, the artist has a 4 week solo exhibition in Create Space and will host one or more public creative workshops for adults in Kirklees.
As part of this project, we are also running a programme of master-class sessions designed to assist new makers who need advice and support on anything from making a creative CV to photographing their artwork and how to use digital media to market their products.
For anyone interested in being a resident artist- please contact Scarlette Homeshaw on 07985025395 or email: packhorse.gallery@gmail.com with an expression of interest.
