South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw STP

For any media enquiries relating to the South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw STP, contact Helen Stevens on 0114 305 1118.

The goal of the STP is to enable everyone in South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw to have a great start in life, supporting them to stay healthy and to live longer. It is based on the five local areas within South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw – Barnsley, Bassetlaw, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield.

The plan starts with where people live, in their neighbourhoods, focusing on people staying well. It involves introducing new services, improving co-ordination between those that exist, supporting people who are most at risk and adapting the workforce so that people’s needs are better met.

Prevention is at the heart – from in the home to hospital care, supported by plans to invest in, reshape and strengthen primary and community services. At the same time the plan will help improve access to high quality care in hospitals and specialist centres.

The plan is also about developing a networked approach to services across South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw to improve the quality and efficiency of services; and is about simplifying urgent and emergency care so that it is more accessible.

The STP will also focus on other factors affecting health, including education, employment and housing.  This will improve the health and wellbeing of every person in the region and deliver a more financially sustainable health and care system for the future.

There are eight priority areas of focus across South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw:

  • Healthy lives, living well and prevention
  • Primary and community care
  • Mental health and learning disabilities
  • Urgent and emergency care
  • Elective and diagnostic services
  • Children’s and maternity services
  • Cancer
  • Streamlining back office functions

Commenting after the draft plan was published on 11 November 2016, Dr Adrian Berry, medical director and deputy chief executive of South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust said:

“We’re committed to the principals of the draft South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw STP, which has at its centre a will to help people stay healthy and live productive and rewarding lives. This is aligned to our mission of helping people to fulfil their potential and live well in their community.

“We will continue to be an integral part of the STP, making sure that our staff and service users are engaged and involved. This will help us to provide prevention, community, learning disability and mental health services that work best for local people.”
