Get involved with the Wakefield heptathlon games and take part in a 10k walk
Date: 01 August 2012
Local people are invited to get active and get involved in 2012 by taking part in one of the final events in the Wakefield heptathlon games – a 10k walk at Nostell Priory and parkland on Friday 10th August at 10.30am.
The walk is open to people of all ages and abilities and people can walk the whole 10k route or just a part of it.
The Wakefield heptathlon games have been organised by South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust’s health and wellbeing development team in partnership with Age UK Wakefield district, Wakefield council and other local partners, in support of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The heptathlon games have been running since May and so far 800 people have taken part in a range of activities including a 1 mile swim challenge, a football tournament and a rowing challenge.
Jill Poole health and wellbeing development team lead said, “We have been absolutely thrilled with the support and involvement of local people in our heptathlon games throughout this summer. The events have been a great opportunity for our team to encourage people to get involved in a physical activity that maybe they haven’t tried before, which has boosted both their mental and physical wellbeing.
“The events have also been a great opportunity for people from across the district to come together, in support of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The 10k walk is one of the final events in our heptathlon games and I hope even more people will take the opportunity to get active and get involved and be part of it.”
The walk will begin at 10.30am at Nostell Priory and parkland on Friday 10th August. People do not need to book a place and all those who take part will be entered into a prize draw for a chance to win an Aspire membership that gives access to council run sports centres and swimming pools across the Wakefield district.
