About the service

Admiral Nurses are registered nurses who have a specialist knowledge in dementia care.

We provide support to family, carers and people living with dementia within the Wakefield and five towns area.

Our approach is family and relationship focused and includes making sure carers have the support and skills they need. Admiral nurse involvement can be particularly during complex periods of transition.

What do admiral nurses do?

Admiral nurses focus on the family as a whole. They can help coordinate a person’s care, due to their understanding of the health and social care systems. They equip carers with stress management techniques and coping strategies and can help them to make contact with local services. They help people living with dementia stay independent for longer and give the people who care for them the confidence to face the future.

They also provide specialist carer education and training.

Additionally, admiral nurses work as part of a multi-disciplinary team (MDT) approach alongside Wakefield memory clinic.
