New drop in for people with mental health problems

Date:

People who use mental health services in Pontefract and surrounding areas are to launch ‘Sanctuary’ a new drop-in group, during mental health action week (27th March – 2 April). Sanctuary is a self-help and support group for others who have experienced mental health problems.

Anyone receiving help for mental-ill health aged between 18 and 65 is welcome to attend the sessions. The first drop in will take place at an open day at All Saints Church Centre in Featherstone, on 14th April (10:30-12:30) and refreshments will be provided.

Sanctuary has been organised by people with mental ill-health who aim to provide a friendly and supportive space where visitors can socialise and feel safe. The drop in is supported by Pontefract Community Mental Health team and members of Pioneers, another survivor-led group.

"We’re hoping to provide a relaxed and informal group where people can come and talk to others who have had the same experiences. Hopefully the group will

grow from strength to strength," says John Girdlestone, one of the organisers of Sanctuary.
