Trust chairman reappointed

The chairman of the South West Yorkshire Mental Health NHS Trust, Sukhdev Sharma has been reappointed for a four year term.

Before joining the Trust Sukhdev served five years as a Non- Executive Director of a community and mental health trust in London. He has also worked as a co-opted trustee of Calderdale Community Foundation, as a member of Leeds Employment Tribunal and as an advisor to the European Monitoring Centre on Racism and Xenophobia based in Vienna.

Currently Sukhdev is a member of the European Economic and Social Committee of the European Union, Chair and Trustee of the Migration Policy Group in Brussels, Trustee of the Shaw Trust and a member of Industrial Tribunals.

As Trust chairman Sukhdev’s role is to ensure the Trust Board works effectively and has confidence in the systems to ensure good clinical care and financial management.

In accepting his appointment Sukhdev said: “I am delighted to accept a further four year term as chairman of the Trust. Over the last few years the Trust has met with many challenges yet has continued to improve services for people with mental health problems and learning disabilities. I look forward to building on our progress so we can continue to provide high quality, tailored services for people who need to use them."

The appointment has been made by the NHS Appointments Commission. Sukhdev will be paid remuneration of £19,454 per annum. His work at the EU economic and social committee is remunerated at 180 euros per day and the Employment Tribunals are remunerated at £147 per day. Sukhdev has no political affiliations.
