Wakefield NHS staff honoured for long service

Date:

With over 875 years of NHS service between them, a group of Wakefield staff from South West Yorkshire Mental Health Trust received long service awards at an event held today. The staff – who have all worked for 25 years and more in the NHS – work at a range of mental health and learning disability services across Wakefield including Fieldhead hospital, and Sycamores community unit for the elderly.

The long serving staff were presented with certificates and gift vouchers at a special event held at Fieldhead.

Carol Vine, a housekeeper from Priory ward, Fieldhead hospital was among the staff who received an award. Carol said, "Altogether I’ve worked for the NHS for more than 28 years – I started at Pinderfields hospital on the intensive care unit and worked there for 6 and a half years before I moved to Fieldhead. I’ve enjoyed it all – especially working with clients and other members of staff. It’s always been a nice place to work and we have fun whilst we work. There’s nothing I don’t like about my job!"

Another member of staff who received an award was Janice White, personal assistant to the director of human resources, who, after organising long service awards for other staff for the past 15 years finally received her own award.

Janice said "I’ve got pleasure out of being at the long service events and watching people receive their awards all these years and it is nice to now receive my own award. I’ve enjoyed my 25 years in the NHS especially working with lots of different people. Working in human resources I get to know how many hard working and dedicated staff work across our different services and it’s nice to know I work as part of a team that makes a difference to people’s lives. "

Trust chief executive Steven Michael who presented the awards said, "This event is a great opportunity for South West Yorkshire Mental Health Trust to thank our long serving staff for their remarkable contribution to the NHS. Their hard work and dedication helps to improve the lives of so many people with mental health problems and learning disabilities in the area. I’m delighted to present these awards as a token of the Trust’s appreciation of the commitment shown by these members of staff.”
