Unique event to help people start a career in NHS

Date:

South West Yorkshire Mental Health Trust is teaming up with community and voluntary organisation ATL to help people from diverse backgrounds to learn more about job opportunities in the NHS.

The ‘Launch Yourself’ event will be held on the 20th June at Agbrigg and Belle Vue Community Centre, 9.45 am – 1.00pm.

Sandy Nicholas, HR manager at the Trust says, "The idea behind the event is to help people from diverse backgrounds make choices about their future career plans and learn more about the job opportunities available in the NHS. The NHS needs people from local communities to help provide services which are sensitive to the needs of local people."

She continues, "We need a workforce within the NHS that is able to understand our concerns and lives, a workforce that we can trust to understand our issues. If you are you looking to start or develop a career in a rewarding and interesting environment but do not know where to start, this event can help you."

Visitors to the event will be able to learn about careers available within South West Yorkshire Mental Health Trust and also: • Find out about the myths and facts of mental health • Meet people from ethnic minority backgrounds who work in mental health services • Get a free personal development plan which will give you an idea of where you need to go to develop your career • Get information about work in the NHS and how this will affect your claim for benefits • Find out about opportunities to help you get that job in the NHS • Book places on a work taster and work placement programmes • Get practical support with job applications including interview skills, English, ICT, Maths
