Everyone is invited to join in Pontefract’s World Mental Health Day celebrations on Friday 12th October at Pontefract Town Hall, Bridge Street, Pontefract, 10am-3pm.
The event is just one of many celebrations taking place across South West Yorkshire Mental Health Trust and throughout the world, which aims to tackle the stigma that surrounds mental illness and raise the profile of mental health.
This year’s celebrations will include taster sessions for arts and crafts and complimentary therapy sessions. There will also be information stalls and displays helping people understand the importance of looking after their own mental well being, as well as information for families and carers.
Speaking about the event Trust chief executive Steven Michael said, "World Mental Health day is a great opportunity to focus on the positive aspects of mental health and tackle the stigma surrounding with mental illness. Events like this help to raise awareness about how people can take care of their own mental well-being Remember that 1 in 4 people experience a mental health problem in the course of a year, so all of us will know someone who has been affected by mental health issues."
He continues, "This year’s event in Pontefract is also a chance for local people to learn more about our Trust’s plans to become a Foundation Trust and join as a member. Foundation Trusts are a different type of NHS organisation which are run locally with local people as members. People who become members of the Trust can have a say in how services are developed and improved, as well as receive information about looking after their own mental wellbeing."
