Better transport service for local mental health trust

Date:

Local people who use services provided by South West Yorkshire Mental Health Trust are benefitting from a new transport service.

Private ambulance service, Caring for you Ltd has been contracted by the Trust to provide high quality, non-emergency transport for service users travelling to and from day treatment units, outpatient appointments and referrals. The service is also used to take people who use the Trust’s services out on day trips.

Caring for you Ltd contract manager Dan Bowyer said, "Our partnership with South West Yorkshire Mental Health Trust has been a delightful success. We have worked closely with the Trust to better its transport system and due to popular demand the service is growing all the time. "

The new service has made vast improvements to the Trust’s service user transport system and staff, service users and carers are more than satisfied with the level of care it provides.

Caring for you Ltd uses vehicles with special, purpose built seats that act as wheelchair docking stations. These seats also provide a head support for passengers and give wheelchair users an unparalleled level of safety and comfort.

Paula Chilcott who works on a special care unit for people with learning disabilities said, "Many of our service users are in wheelchairs and the Caring for you team have worked closely with unit staff to provide transport that is tailored to suit the needs of those service users."

South West Yorkshire Mental Health Trust is committed to helping people who use its services get back into work and contracted Caring for you Ltd because the company shared this goal.

The Trust’s head of procurement Tony Cooper said, "As well as offering a first rate transport service to people who use the Trust’s services, Caring for you Ltd offers work placements to those service users who are keen to regain employment, but because of their health problems, have lost the confidence to do so. These work placements offer a supportive environment and give people the chance to gain the experience they need to take the next step towards securing a job."
