Local hospital in search of a pianist!

Staff and service users on the Mary Wilkinson Ward at Dewsbury & District Hospital, which is run by South West Yorkshire Mental Health Trust, are searching for a volunteer to make regular visits and play a piano that was recently donated to them.

Staff on the ward, which provides mental health services to older people, held a raffle which raised £50 to get the piano re-tuned, but now they need someone to play it! It is hoped that the enthusiastic pianist will boost morale and get the patient’s singing.

The ward’s activities co-ordinator Janet Dransfield said, "Music and singing is a fantastic way of stimulating the mind and getting people’s endorphins going. Having someone coming and playing the piano would be great therapy for the people on the ward. You can’t beat a sing-along for that feel-good factor."

The ward would like to hear from anyone who can play the piano and has some spare time on their hands. This is a good opportunity to do something positive and make a real difference to the lives of older people with mental health problems.
