Local NHS building gets landscaped garden in memory of patient

Date:

The Poplars community unit for the elderly in Hemsworth, which is run by South West Yorkshire Mental Health Trust, has hired landscape gardeners to make improvements to its main entrance area.

Previously the area outside the building’s main entrance was pebbled and uninteresting but landscape gardeners, S & D Landscapes, have installed railway sleepers to create a large flowerbed and surrounded this with slate. An array of flowers, plants and shrubs have now been planted in the flowerbed, and will make an eye-catching feature once they are fully grown.

The improvements were made using funds donated to the unit by Mr Jim Aisthorpe in his will. Jim’s wife Molly Aisthorpe spent 8 years as a patient at The Poplars, before passing away earlier this year. Mr Aisthorpe was a regular visitor to The Poplars and over the years made several donations to benefit the residents. Staff at the Poplars are now hoping to get a plaque made for the flowerbed in memory of Jim and Molly.
