Leading the way on learning disabilities

Date:

Anne Williams, who was the strategic director of Salford city council, has been appointed as the new National Director for Learning Disabilities at the Department of Health. Her new role involves driving forward the delivery of policies to make sure people with learning disabilities are treated as equal citizens in their communities, in healthcare and beyond. She also oversees the next stage of the cross-Government ‘Valuing People Now’ strategy, as well as managing its implementation in the coming years.

Anne said, ‘I have a longstanding commitment to people with learning disabilities and their families. I am especially keen to see that every person benefits from the developments that will be outlined in the strategy, particularly those with profound and complex disabilities and those whose behaviour challenges services.’
