People in the Wakefield district encouraged to consider a career in nursing

On International Nurses Day, 12th May, South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, which provides specialist mental health and learning disability services to people in Calderdale, Kirklees and Wakefield, is encouraging local people to consider a career in nursing.

International Nurses Day is run by the International Council of Nurses and celebrated around the world every year on the anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth.

The Trust employs nearly 1000 qualified nurses and just under 500 unqualified nursing staff and values the contribution they make every day to the lives of local people who use the organisation’s services.

Noma Bhebhe who works within the Trust’s forensic services in Wakefield, has been a nurse for 3 years and said, "I love my job and there is nothing else I would rather do than nursing. Caring for and improving the lives of other people is so fulfilling and rewarding and there’s nothing better than knowing, at the end of every day, that you’ve made some small difference."

The Trust’s head of nursing George Smith added, "Nurses and unqualified nursing staff make a vital contribution to the NHS and to the specialist services we provide and form a huge part of our workforce. I would highly recommend nursing as a career path to anyone with a caring nature who is passionate about touching the lives of others.
