Improving our pharmacy service

Date:

The Trust is always looking at ways to improve the services we provide for local people and one recent development has done just that. We have opened a specialised pharmacy service at Fieldhead in Wakefield that provides more individualised care for people who use our services.

The new pharmacy is run exclusively by the Trust, instead of partly by external pharmacies as it was previously. It delivers an exclusive service to the inpatient wards at Fieldhead and all the community based services across the organisation, and ensures that people get a service dedicated to meeting their mental health needs.

The new service is provided by a team of pharmacy staff who work solely for service users with mental health problems, which in turn gives the people we provide care for a much better service overall. The team will work within each of the Trust’s localities to deliver the specialist service and give advice where and when it is needed.

Chief pharmacist Lynn Haygarth said, ‘The relocation of the pharmacy is a very positive move for the Trust. It will streamline services whilst ensuring that dispensing procedures across all our localities, whether on wards or out in the community are regulated and consistent. It is important to note that the majority of mental health care is delivered via community based teams and the new pharmacy will have a positive impact on the way treatment is provided to local people via these services.’
