Local community asked to donate books to NHS mental health trust

Date:

A local mental health unit, run by South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, is asking people to donate any spare books that they have at home and no longer want.

South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is the local provider of specialist NHS mental health and learning disability services for people in Calderdale, Kirklees and Wakefield.

The Bretton centre at Fieldhead hospital in Wakefield would like to create a library and would be grateful for books on a range of topics to be donated including history, science, art, fact or fiction.

This service is for men from Calderdale, Kirklees and Wakefield with serious mental health conditions who require care under low secure conditions. The library will be created on the Sandal unit, a six bed unit providing assessment and care for people when they are first admitted to the Bretton centre.

Rebecca Moore, who works on the unit, said "We hope that providing a library for service users will encourage additional meaningful activity on the ward and further promote social interaction through a book club. Books of all genres will be gratefully received and they will be used to promote debate and discussion within a social environment."

For further details about how to donate, people can contact Rebecca Moore on 01924 237632
