Local Kirklees charity celebrates world mental health day

Date:

The mental health charity Support 2 Recovery (S2R) will mark world mental health day at the weekend (Oct 9th/10th) by hosting two open days at their centres in Dewsbury and Huddersfield.

Support 2 Recovery works with individuals in the community to help them reach the goals they want to achieve in their lives through encouragement and support.

The charity is inviting members, their friends and family to join them at their centres in Dewsbury on Saturday 9th October or in Huddersfield on Sunday 10th October. A number of activities have been planned for the open days including quizzes, competitions and a raffle. There will also be a musical performance by members and an exhibition of photographs taken by those involved with the charities photography group.

The mayor will be attending the open day in Huddersfield on Sunday to meet members of the charity and participate in the activities planned.

This event is part of South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust’s wellbeing month which is running throughout October. Over 200 events have been planned as part of the month to boost people’s physical and mental wellbeing.

The Trust’s chair, Joyce Catterick, said, "As 1 in 4 of us will experience a mental health problem, the month of wellbeing is an ideal opportunity to raise awareness of mental health issues, reduce stigma and promote wellbeing. We want people in our local communities to be able to try something new to enhance their wellbeing. I’m delighted Support 2 Recovery are getting involved and know they will have a couple of great days of celebration."
