Improved ward re-opens in Halifax
The NHS mental health Trust has marked the official transfer of services to the Ashdale ward on the Dales unit at Calderdale Royal Hospital with a special event.
The South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust recently re-located its inpatient services for adults from St Luke’s hospital in Huddersfield to improved accommodation at the Ashdale ward and has now officially marked this move.
The new facilities offer a modern and easily accessible environment to provide care to local people. To mark the move the Trust invited local partners and Trust Members’ Council representatives to a special event, where they were joined by the Trust’s chair, Joyce Catterick.
At the event, ward staff introduced their service and ward manager Melissa Harvey gave a guided tour of the new facilities.
The 24 bed unit for adults who are experiencing mental distress has been designed to offer many benefits including: ?Single en-suite rooms supporting privacy and dignity ?Increased space with lounges, activity rooms and gardens ?Bright and cheerful décor, complimented by paintings created by service users ?A fully equipped gymnasium to support occupational therapy
Trust chair, Joyce Catterick said, “Staff have worked extremely hard on the transfer of the service and have overcome a number of challenges along the way. They have embraced the changes and are already receiving positive feedback from service users about the improved setting.
"98% of our mental health care is provided in the community and we will continue to ensure that local people can access local services in the right place, at the right time. When people do need to receive care in hospital, we want them to benefit from the best possible environment to enable them to recover and live their lives to the full. This transfer to the Ashdale ward in Halifax has enabled us to meet the needs of people from Calderdale and Kirklees who need to use the service as well as provide facilities that our staff are proud to work in.”
Community services for people from Kirklees have remained based in Kirklees, alongside the existing Calderdale community services for people in the Calderdale area.
