Barnsley staff put patient safety first

Date:

A poster display and wordsearch competition helped to start discussions about patient safety for Barnsley-based staff from South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust during a national awareness week.

National Patient Safety Week, run annually as part of the National Patient Safety Agency’s Patient Safety First campaign, took place from 12 to 18 September. This year’s theme was ‘It starts with me’, reinforcing the idea that each and every member of staff has a part to play in safer care.

Staff at Mount Vernon Hospital in Barnsley organised a poster display to help raise awareness of patient safety and celebrate good practice. They also organised a wordsearch competition which highlighted some key issues about patient safety. Carol Nayeri, assistant modern matron at Mount Vernon Hospital, said, "Patient safety is of paramount importance at all times but this national week helped by raising awareness and getting our staff talking about how their own roles help to keep patients safe."
