Share your views on mental health services in Kirklees

Date:

Local people are encouraged to submit their views on mental health services in Kirklees before the closing date of 31st October, for their chance to help shape any future developments.

As part of an engagement exercise South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, which provides mental health services in Kirklees, is inviting local people to have a say to better understand how well the Trust is meeting local needs.

Two listening events have been held for all the individuals and groups that take an interest in the services the Trust provides in Kirklees.

But there is still a chance to share your views by submitting a views form or speaking to a member of Trust staff. The Trust is particularly keen to hear from people who use services in Kirklees, carers, and Trust members.

Following the closure of St Luke’s Hospital in Huddersfield in December 2010, Trust community mental health services are now provided at Folly Hall Mill in Huddersfield and Beckside Court in Batley.

98% of mental health care takes place in the community and in people’s own homes. When someone does need specialist care in hospital, inpatient services for adults are at the Dales Unit in Halifax and inpatient services for older people are at the Priestley Unit in Dewsbury. Adult services are also provided at the Priestley Unit.

The Trust wants to decide on a long term model for services taking account of what local people say and is inviting views on all the services it provides in Kirklees to help shape the long term provision of mental health care to ensure they meet local need and are fit for the future.

Information about current services and how they support individuals is available on the Trust’s website, but the Trust is seeking views on what it does well and the areas to improve on.

If you’d like to get involved there are a number of ways you can share your views:

•Complete a feedback form on our website www.southwestyorkshire.nhs.uk •Email your opinions to lesley.rollins@swyt.nhs.uk •If you would prefer to speak to someone to share your views or to get a printed copy of a form please call 01484 434635

Speaking about the events Anna Basford, Kirklees district director, said, "It is important that we involve as many people as possible in this engagement exercise and listen to what people want. Local people will be able to help us improve services for now and in the future. I would like to invite people to give their views and help the Trust develop."
