Stop smoking service to get people at Xscape ready for No Smoking Day

Date:

Help and advice on how to quit smoking will be available from the local NHS stop smoking service at Xscape in Castleford as part of the run up to this year’s No Smoking Day, 14th March.

Members of the Wakefield stop smoking service will be on hand at Xscape on Wednesday 7th February from 4pm- 7pm offering advice and support about stopping smoking, hoping to help people set their day to quit as No Smoking Day.

The Wakefield Stop Smoking team is part of the local health improvement service, which is provided by the South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.

The team offers free friendly support on how to stop smoking. They also help with access to nicotine replacement therapy, Champix and Zyban, to help smokers who choose to quit smoking.

Figures show you’re four times more likely to quit smoking for good if you use NHS stop smoking services and as soon as you stop your body will begin to repair the damage caused by cigarettes, so it’s never too late.

Specialist stop smoking advisor Katie Barnett said, "This is a great opportunity for us to raise awareness of the help available to local people and hopefully get as many people onboard by No Smoking Day. The stop smoking team will be giving out information on all the support that is available to help you succeed in becoming a non-smoker in 2012."

Local people are invited to come along to the information stand or to drop into the Quit Shop in Wakefield before No Smoking Day and get ready in advance for their quit day.
