Health Information Week coming to Pontefract

Date:

As part of Health Information Week, which runs from 2-8 July, a special event is being held in Pontefract to offer free health checks and let local people know about available support to boost health and wellbeing.

Health Information Week is an opportunity to promote the health resources that are available to the public. It hopes not only to encourage partnership working across sectors, but also raise awareness among the public of resources available to them.

As part of the week health trainers from South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust are inviting local people to visit St. Marys Community Centre, Chequerfield, Pontefract, WF8 2AY on Wednesday, 4th July between 9.30 am and 12.30 pm.

Information stalls at the event will include free NHS health checks carried out by the health trainers, advice from the stop smoking service, community food and health workers, Arthritis Care and many more.

Health trainers offer support, motivation and encouragement to anyone in the local area that would like to make healthy changes to their lifestyle.

Each health trainer is a qualified specialist that works with people on a one-to-one basis and can help with a variety of issues including weight management, healthy eating, stress, stopping smoking, physical activity and alcohol. They help individuals to set realistic personal goals and find other services that may benefit and help them to maintain the lifelong changes they’ve made so far.

Rita Gooding, senior health trainer, said: "This is a great opportunity for healthcare teams to get together to find out more about what help is available to them and where they can find it."

For more information contact Rita Gooding on 07900 053 581 or health trainer locality lead Natasha Pawson 07899 995872.
