Getting into the spirit of London 2012 at Enfield Down

Date:

People who use services at Enfield Down in Honley are getting involved with the spirit of London 2012 this week as they take part in a series of sporting activities and challenges.

From Monday 9th – Friday 13th July special sporting events have been organised for people currently staying at the unit and staff including a table tennis tournament, a swimming session, walking challenges and a rounders match.

Enfield Down is an inpatient unit that provides recovery and rehabilitation services for people experiencing mental health problems who need a longer time to re-establish their independence.

Jenny McGuigan, occupational therapist at Enfield Down said, "A week of physical activities and challenges have been organised at Enfield Down as we wanted to celebrate the Olympics by becoming more physically active.

"Throughout the week everyone will have the opportunity to try a range of physical activities in different settings and in local facilities such as the boules pitch and playing field in Honley.

"The week will be completed with a celebratory event on Friday when people will receive medals for their achievements. We hope that the experience will motivate our service users to continue to pursue the physical activities that they have enjoyed and benefitted from this week, throughout the rest of the year."

Enfield Down is run by South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, which provides mental health and learning disability services in Kirklees.
