A new recognition scheme designed to celebrate the extraordinary work of NHS staff has been launched in Wakefield – have you received exceptional care from a health hero?
South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, which provides mental health, learning disability and some community services in Wakefield, is encouraging people to put forward their local health workers for NHS Hero recognition today.
This is the first time anyone in England – from patients, their friends and their families to work colleagues and professional peers – can nominate their own NHS heroes and celebrate their achievements on a national stage.
Anyone in an NHS health or wellbeing role can be nominated, as well as those who work on behalf of the NHS in voluntary, independent and charity organisations.
It could be a friendly receptionist who has made your day, a community mental health worker whose visits you really look forward to, a ward nurse or doctor or a stop smoking advisor who has helped you to turn your life around.
This initiative offers a fantastic opportunity for local people to have their health heroes recognised in their own communities and on a national level. Ian Black, chairman of South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, said, “As I visit services around the Trust and talk to patients, staff and managers, I frequently hear of people going above and beyond the call of duty to give exemplary care. I am especially keen to learn if and how others feel the same, so please, if you feel you have met one of our heroes, please nominate somebody for their exceptional care.
“NHS Heroes is intended to give recognition to those individuals and teams identified by patients and colleagues as going ‘the extra mile’. I would like to encourage everyone who feels they have an extraordinary NHS health worker in their life to consider nominating them for this special accolade.“
Visit www.nhsheroes.com to nominate your hero. Nominations are being accepted from now until mid-September and all NHS Heroes will receive a certificate in recognition of their achievement.
