People in Wakefield invited to a celebration of creativity

Date:

People in and around Wakfield are invited to Creative Minds Live, a celebration of creative arts and meaningful activity projects around Wakefield that support wellbeing and recovery.

Creative Minds is a strategy developed by South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust in November 2011 to recognise it’s commitment to having a creative approach to service delivery and to promote more opportunities for individuals and groups to develop creatively.

The Creative Minds team will be joining forces with Spectrum People, the community involvement and volunteering arm of health service provider Spectrum, to put on an afternoon of activities celebrating creative approaches used by NHS teams throughout the district.

Creative Minds Live will take place at The Orangery, Back lane, Wakefield WF1 2TG on Wednesday 7th November between 1pm and 7pm.

The afternoon will showcase projects and initiatives that have been developed throughout 2012 as part of the Creative Minds strategy. National and local speakers will be making presentations and contributions will also be made by local organisations Altogether Better, Hoot, Faceless and the Yorkshire Sculpture Park.

People who have used local services will be sharing their experiences of why creative activities are so important to recovery and arts and craft taster sessions will be available. A light buffet will be served from 5pm and the day will be concluded with music, dance and poetry performances.

Steven Michael, the Trust’s chief executive said, “The Creative Minds Live events are an opportunity to showcase the different projects which have been running in our local communities to involve people in creative activity. Creative approaches have been proven to achieve high quality outcomes for people who use health services by boosting self esteem and confidence, creating the opportunity for people to engage with those around them, and helping to break down barriers between staff and service users.”

Creative Minds Live is open to everyone. To book a place call the Trust’s inclusion team on 01924 328656 or e-mail inclusion@swyt.nhs.uk. There are limited places are available so please book early to avoid disappointment.

Further details about the event and the projects that will be featured are available at www.southwestyorkshire.nhs.uk/creativeminds or by contacting the Trust’s inclusion team via inclusion@swyt.nhs.uk or calling 01924 328656
