Trust launches new mission and values
South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust has launched a new organisational mission and set of values.
The Trust provides a range of community, mental health and learning disability services to the people of Barnsley, Calderdale, Kirklees and Wakefield. The Trust also provides some medium secure (forensic) services to the whole of Yorkshire and the Humber. It employs 4600 staff.
The new mission of the organisation is: Enabling people to reach their potential and live well in their community.
The Trust spent several months speaking to service users, carers, staff and partners and held over 20 roadshows, led by chief executive, Steven Michael. The Trust also gathered over 1000 views via online surveys.
Steven Michael, chief executive said, “Around 2,000 people – over half being service users and carers – have been involved in the work to help us refocus our mission and values and I am grateful for their input. There was significant agreement amongst people who use our services, their carers, our partner organisations and our staff about what we should be focussing on and what our values should be.”
The Trust’s revised values are that it will:
- Be honest, open and transparent
- Always show respect to all
- Always put the person first and in the centre
- Always strive to Improve and be outstanding
- Be relevant today, ready for tomorrow
- Ensure families and carers matter
The Trust is now working with a group of people who use learning disability services, alongside speech and language therapy colleagues, to create a set of pictures that depict the values in a way that is easily understood by people with learning disabilities.
Steven Michael said: “In a typical month we provide care, advice or treatment to 56,000 people and our values help create the common sense of purpose which unites all our services. They guide us each day to ensure we provide the best possible care for local people and they are statements we can fall back on when times are tough; holding us steady. I am very proud to stand by our new values and our mission.”
