Sheffield Stop Smoking Service is inviting local people to swap their fags for swag this No Smoking Day and quit smoking for good.

This year’s No Smoking Day, which is part of an initiative provided by the British Heart Foundation, takes place on Wednesday 13 March. On this day more than a million smokers are expected to make a quit attempt. This year the theme ‘Swap Fags for Swag’ is all about what smokers will gain when they quit – as well as improved health, they’ll have extra cash to spend on whatever they like!

Maggie Milne, specialist stop smoking adviser at Sheffield Stop Smoking Service says, “We know that most smokers would really like to stop, but find it hard to. So this No Smoking Day we want to encourage smokers to see what they will gain from quitting and give it a go with the help of our local stop smoking advisers.”

People in Sheffield are invited to an open day at the city centre Quit-Stop, 39 Charles Street, to find out what help is available to support them to quit for good. The Quit-Stop is open on No Smoking Day from 8am to 7pm.

Stop smoking advisers will be on hand to offer advice with ‘no pressure, no obligation, just information’.

The service’s trained advisers can offer smokers advice, information and support. This includes information on what medications are available (like patches and gum), tips on beating those cravings, and support to help smokers stay quit for good. This is a free, non-judgemental and confidential service and is tailored to suit the needs of each individual smoker.

Claire Holden, the service manager added, “Stopping smoking is the one of the most effective ways of improving your health and free help is available to help you quit from our Sheffield NHS Stop Smoking Service. You’re four times more likely to quit smoking for good with expert friendly support from a local service. We hope No Smoking Day will give people the boost they need to stop smoking this year. Maybe the March 13th could be your lucky day!”

Normal opening hours for the Quit-Stop are 9am – 4.45pm Monday, Thursday and Friday, Tuesdays 10am to 4.45pm, late opening Wednesday 8am to 7pm and 9.30am – 12.30pm on Saturday.

The Quit-Stop drop in service is based in Sheffield city centre at 39 Charles Street, just off Pinstone Street, only 2 minutes walk from the Town Hall.
