A steptacular challenge!

Local people in Barnsley are being invited to step up and join in with the Trek The Trail initiative led by the Change4Life team.

The Barnsley Change4Life weight management service is delivered by South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust in partnership with Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Barnsley Premier Leisure and Active Barnsley. The service provides information, advice and free NHS treatment programmes for people registered with a Barnsley GP who would like to lose weight.

The Trek The Trail initiative encourages people in Barnsley to get walking by taking part in a virtual walking journey across the Trans Pennine Trail from Southport to Hornsea. Participants will be given an online account where they can track their journey and compete with other walkers that are logging their steps.

Zoe Styring, manager of Barnsley’s Change 4 Life team said, “We really want people in Barnsley to join in with our Trek The Trail initiative. Walking 10,000 steps a day can help with your weight and keep your heart and lungs healthy.

“Walking has some great health and wellbeing benefits and has been shown to increase muscle tone, decrease stress, help you get a good night’s sleep and give your energy levels a boost. It also reduces the risk of heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure and arthritis to name a few.

“Walking can easily be fitted into your routine. It can be done anywhere and it’s free!”
