‘Be food smart’ in Lupset this summer

Date:

Thinking about making a change to your eating habits? Interested in learning new recipes for your family? Want to know how to read food labels? Then join the NHS community food and health team at information roadshows in Lupset and get food smart this summer.

As part of a week of activities starting on Monday 5th August of the events, the team will be visiting Lupset and events will take place between 10am and 2pm each day.

Monday- Thornes Park Stadium

Tuesday- St. George’s Community Centre

Wednesday- Wakefield Methodist Church

Thursday- Jubilee Hall

Friday- out and about in the community

The community food and health team, which is provided by South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, work across the district to raise awareness of the health benefits of eating a balanced diet. They encourage local people to overcome barriers that stop them from enjoying a healthy diet and run cook and eat sessions that allow people to develop skills, build their knowledge and their experience of choosing and cooking with healthy food.

As part of the Be Food Smart Summer Roadshow members of the team will be holding cooking demonstrations in each area and handing out Be Food Smart goodies, provided by the national Change for Life campaign.

Everyone will receive a Change 4 Life meal mixer cook book and the team will be demonstrating the Vegetarian Chilli and Bean Salad recipes.

At the same time as sharing information about eating healthily, staff from the Wakefield Change 4 Life team will also be on hand introducing the new campaign ‘Get Going this Summer’ and providing information and freebies to help you make small changes to your lifestyle.

Other local services will also be on hand such as health trainers, the Expert Patients Programme and Wakefield District Housing.

Speaking about the events Bev Juniper, team leader of the community food and health team, said, “All the roadshow sessions are free of charge and will demonstrate how easy it is to make healthy food choices and cook delicious meals. We hope the roadshows will encourage and support anyone who needs inspiration to get cooking or who would like to try making some healthy changes to boost their lifestyle. Look out for the demonstration station where you live!”
