Kicking the habit with SWFC

Date:

StoptoberLogoSheffield NHS Stop Smoking Service has teamed up with Sheffield Wednesday Football Club (SWFC) to help people who want to quit smoking by offering free match tickets as part of Stoptober.

Stoptober is England’s mass 28 day stop smoking attempt. It is back following its huge success last year which saw 160,000 people complete the challenge.

People who sign up to stop smoking with the service during Stoptober and manage to quit for four weeks or more will be entered into a prize draw to win one of three pairs of free tickets to an upcoming SWFC home match.

Players from the first team will be joining the stop smoking service at their Quit Stop on Charles Street on Tuesday 1st October, day 1 of Stoptober, at 1.30pm to launch the giveaway and rally support for Stoptober.

Local people are invited to come along and meet the players at the same time as signing up to stop smoking.

At the end of October three successful quitters who have not smoked for at least four weeks will be randomly drawn and rewarded for their efforts with a pair of tickets to the match against Huddersfield Town match on Saturday 23rd November.

Claire Holden, stop smoking service manager said, “We wanted to offer an incentive to local people who manage to quit smoking during Stoptober. We are delighted that the club recognises the importance of stopping smoking and the subsequent health benefits for their fans, families and local people. Our service is on hand to help anybody who chooses to stop smoking during Stoptober or beyond.”

Stoptober provides smokers with a range of free support including a new stop smoking pack, mobile phone app and text support. It starts on Tuesday 1st October and runs for 28 days. For more information and to join the biggest stop smoking challenge of its kind visit smokefree.nhs.uk/Stoptober
