Local people in Barnsley are invited to attend a free educational talk aimed at giving a professional insight into learning disabilities.
South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, which provides community, mental health and learning disability services in Wakefield, Barnsley, Calderdale and Kirklees, is holding the session as part of a series of ‘Insight into’ talks.
The first talk will be held in Barnsley at The Core, County Way, on Tuesday 11 March from 6:30pm – 7:30pm. Attendees are encouraged to arrive at least half an hour before the start of the talk for refreshments and registration.
The session will include a talk by Consultant Psychiatrist and Specialist in Learning Disabilities, Dr Bennett Eng, followed by time for questions and queries. The talk is free and open to everyone.
Dr Eng said: “The talks will be a really good opportunity to find out more about learning disabilities and I would encourage anyone to come along. I’m really looking forward to presenting the talk and I will be happy to answer any questions people may have about the subject.”
A number of talks will also take place in other locations where services are delivered by the Trust, including St Swithun’s Community Centre in Wakefield on 8 April, the Hudawi Centre in Huddersfield on 13 May, and Dean Clough in Halifax on 10 June (7:00pm – 8:00pm). Everyone is welcome to whichever session is most convenient to them.
The talks follow on from a series of successful talks in 2013 offering an insight into substance misuse and common mental health conditions.
