Hear to help

Date:

An event has been organised to highlight the support available to people living in Barnsley who have hearing loss problems or are Deaf.

Barnsley Deaf Awareness Day will see experts from the Barnsley sensory impairment service team at South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust team up with charities to raise awareness of hearing loss.

The event is being held at the Better Barnsley shop between 10am and 2pm on Wednesday 20 May and anyone is welcome to come along and find out more and talk about the help on offer.

Organisations on hand to offer advice include Health Watch Barnsley, Action on Hearing Loss and Barnsley Deaf Forum. Experts will also be on hand to talk to people about their hearing difficulties and suggest equipment or support that could help.

Moira Fuller, senior rehabilitation officer at the Trust said, “It is important that people know that local support is available and they know where to find it.

“Around 10 million people in the UK are deaf or hard of hearing and this event is a great opportunity for local people to meet other people who might be in the same position as they are.

“We’ll have lots of stalls providing information and advice about hearing and how you can prevent damaging your hearing.”
