Exciting and fun educational courses now running at the Exchange Recovery College in Barnsley.

The Recovery College, run by South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, supports adults in their recovery from mental and physical ill-health by recognising and making the most of their talents.

The college has launched a new annual prospectus which details all of the courses available from September 2015 until July 2016.

Courses available over the next 12 months include support for people to manage conditions such as depression and anger, stress therapy and creative writing courses to help people share their life story.

The college runs during term time, with the duration of courses running for four and eight weeks.

All courses are friendly, welcoming and available to everyone, whether you have personal experience of health problems, are a friend or relative of someone with such an experience, or work in local health services.

Jane Taylor, Barnsley Recovery College lead said, “Our Recovery College is now entering its third year and we are really pleased to be launching the new annual programme.

“We have extended our range of physical health courses and opening times at the gym to raise awareness around physical health. This is also complimented by offering complimentary therapies such as Reiki and Reflexology.

“We continue to balance courses that reflect learning around self-management of health and wellbeing, as well as courses for enjoyment that, in turn, can help improve your confidence and self-esteem.

“Everyone who joins one of our courses is supported to plan their goals and the steps that they can take to achieve them. We do this using WRAP training which gives people tools they can use to boost their wellbeing if they start to notice particular feelings, behaviours or experiences.”

The Trust provides a range of mental health, learning disability and community services in Barnsley – as well as services in Wakefield, Calderdale and Kirklees where Recovery Colleges are also available.
