Lodgefest returns to Newton Lodge

Date:

The annual Lodgefest made a welcome return to our Newton Lodge facility at Fieldhead, earlier this week.

Launched in 2010, Lodgefest is a celebration event offering a host of activities for service users. It aims to bring service users and staff across the forensic BDU together to socialise and enjoy a fun-filled day of activities.

The day-long event kicked off in the morning with a football tournament with service users and staff competing in the challenge.  The afternoon’s events included circus workshops, tombola, open mic area with face painting, and a barbecue.  This year’s event also had a rugby theme with sports challenges for people to take part in, to coincide with the Rugby World Cup taking place this month in England.

Trevor Jones, Senior Clinical Practitioner at Newton Lodge, has organised Lodgefest for the past six years and said, “It’s been another fantastic event with so many people enjoying all the activities and socialising with people from other wards. I was really pleased to see everyone having a really good time with what we had on.

“Now in its sixth year, the Lodgefest event really helps to break down barriers between staff and patients in a fun filled environment, and we also ‘break down’ the physical barriers of being in a medium-secure unit by utilising the internal grounds space in a more relaxed manner. The patients really look forward to the events and work on ideas and activities for the stalls beforehand.”
