New route into CAMHS frees up capacity

Date:

South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust now have one simple route into all our child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS) in Calderdale and Kirklees. It’s making referrals much easier and helping bring down waiting times.

The new process, called first point of contact in Calderdale and single point of access Kirklees, is having a huge impact.

Prior to the system being introduced, some referrals were coming in that weren’t right for our services which was making waiting lists longer than they needed to be. Now we’re able to immediately direct these referrals to the right place. This means children and young people are getting the right treatment first time and our services have more capacity.

We’re now looking at how we can make this work across the other localities we serve.
