Good response from public to Stoptober

Thousands of people across South and West Yorkshire were referred to our Yorkshire Smokefree service during Stoptober.

The team offered Smokers in Barnsley, Calderdale, Doncaster, Kirklees, Rotherham, Sheffield and Wakefield checks on their carbon monoxide (CO) levels as part of a month of activity which included visiting shoppers in local markets.

The team’s facebook account gained more than 800 new followers on facebook with 855 post engagements and 641,533 impressions. Posts on Twitter received 104 retweets.

Launched in 2012, Stoptober is a national campaign which encourages smokers to give up cigarettes for just 28 days.

Gill Stansfield, community services manager, said: ““Well done to out teams for another successful Stoptober campaign. CO testing is a reality check for many smokers and is the incentive they need to quit for good. You’re four times more likely to quit with help from our expert NHS advisors, so visit the team at a location near you to get the support you need to quit, your way.
